MCi Carbon Joins UN Global Compact

SYDNEY, 31 October 2024 – MCi Carbon, a leading innovator in carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technology, is proud to announce its official membership in the United Nations Global Compact. This milestone aligns MCi Carbon with a global community of companies dedicated to responsible business practices and the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact. These focus on human rights, labour standards, environmental responsibility, and anti-corruption.

A positive step for reducing carbon.

By joining the UN Global Compact, MCi Carbon is reinforcing a commitment to sustainable development and climate action. The company is scaling its carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technology to meet the growing global demand for low-carbon materials, backed by key investors and government support.

As a technology leader in decarbonising industries and promoting the circular economy, MCi Carbon is committed to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With a core mission to transform millions of tonnes of CO₂ into sustainable materials, MCi Carbon advances multiple SDGs.

Attending the UN Global Compact Australia ‘Uniting Business LIVE’ event in Sydney this week, Marcus Dawe, Founder & CEO of MCi Carbon, expressed the company’s commitment to the UN Global Compact, stating:

“Joining the UN Global Compact strengthens our dedication to a sustainable future where CO₂ is treated as a resource, not a waste product. Our team is aiming to set a standard for integrity and environmental responsibility in the carbon capture and utilisation industry. It is paramount. Together, we are committed to creating a world where sustainable practices drive economic growth and climate resilience.”

Through its mineral carbonation process, MCi Carbon captures and transforms CO₂ emissions from hard-to-abate sectors like steel, cement, and chemicals into valuable materials, demonstrating an industrial-scale solution for emissions reduction.

Notably, the company’s alignment with the UN SDGs emphasises not only climate goals but also social impact, addressing gender equality, fair labour practices, and community engagement. In the past year, MCi Carbon has implemented programs that foster an inclusive work environment and have created high-quality, sustainable employment opportunities within a low-carbon economy.

By joining the UN Global Compact, MCi Carbon reaffirms its role as a pioneer in circular economy solutions and a key contributor to the Paris Agreement climate targets. The company’s long-term vision includes the construction of industrial-scale CCU plants worldwide, supporting Australia and the world in transitioning to a circular future.
