MCi Carbon has announced a collaboration with Hatch to support the engineering, techno-economic assessment and commercial deployment pathways for MCi’s mineral carbonation technology.
Hatch to Support Engineering, Feasibility and Project Delivery
Hatch is a global engineering, project delivery and consulting firm with extensive experience supporting major industrial projects and emerging decarbonisation technologies. Through the collaboration, Hatch will support MCi in the development of commercial-scale mineral carbonation projects, including feasibility studies, engineering, plant development and project delivery planning.
Mineral Carbonation: Converting CO₂ Into Low-Carbon Materials
MCi Carbon’s technology uses mineral carbonation to permanently bind CO₂ into solid materials, producing low-carbon materials for use in industrial and construction supply chains. The MCi Carbon Hatch collaboration is intended to support the development of robust, scalable and commercially deployable project pathways for this technology.
“Design has started on our first commercial plants. Hatch’s engineering expertise strengthens our ability to roll out this technology globally. This partnership positions us to turn our pipeline of customer opportunities into delivered projects.”
Marcus Dawe, MCi Carbon Founder & CEO
“Hatch is pleased to collaborate with MCi Carbon on the development and scale-up of its mineral carbonation technology. Through this collaboration, Hatch intends to provide engineering support and technical expertise to assist MCi’s project development activities. We look forward to working with the MCi team as they continue to advance the technology and evaluate opportunities for future commercial deployment with particular focus on scale-up, technology integration, and execution planning.”
Wendy Harris, Hatch Australia-Asia Regional Director, Climate Change
MCi and Hatch will continue working together to identify and progress commercial mineral carbonation opportunities across relevant industrial sectors.
Commercialisation is Underway
MCi Carbon continues to advance on multiple fronts. Myrtle, the world’s first multi-feedstock, multi-product mineral carbonation platform, is operating at TRL 7 on Kooragang Island, Newcastle – proving mineral carbonation works at demonstration scale, and giving customers a proven pathway to validate the technology without needing to build their own demonstration plant.
